Oxford College of Arts, Business and Technology 647-559-2507

Thank you.
We’ve got your request.

Someone from Oxford will call you soon, usually today. Until then, there’s nothing you need to do.

You've already done the hard part.

Deciding is the part people put off for years. Everything after this is smaller than it looks — a conversation, some numbers, a date on a calendar. And you won’t be doing any of it on your own.

WHY THIS WAS A GOOD CALL

Three reasons to feel good about it.

1
This is work people are grateful for
Very few careers put you in the room on the day someone turns things around. This one does, regularly, and it stays with you.
2
Placement puts you in front of real clients
With supervision, near where you live. You finish knowing you can do the work, not just describe it.
3
Your placement is the start of your network
Your 400-hour placement happens at a Ministry-approved site — real employers, real caseloads. Career Services helps you carry it forward: résumé and interview support, and job-search guidance in the communities around all six campuses, for as long as you need it.
This is where the practice happens. Ninety-two weeks from now.
ADDICTIONS & MENTAL HEALTH

The shape of it, in three numbers.

LENGTH
92 weeks
DELIVERY
Online + placement
CREDENTIAL
Post-Graduate Diploma
Your advisor will confirm all of this against the current calendar — nothing is fixed until you say so.
WHAT IT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE

Ninety-two weeks, from the inside.

EARLY
The first stretch is theory — how addiction and mental illness actually work, the models used to treat them, and the ethics and boundaries the job runs on. It is reading and reflection, done at home, and it changes how you see people you already know.
MIDDLE
Then it moves into skills. Motivational interviewing, assessment, crisis response, case notes — practised in role-play and supervision until the words come without you reaching for them.
LATER
You go into a supervised placement with real clients, near where you live. Somewhere in there it stops feeling like study. By the end you have sat with people on hard days and know that you can.
YOU'LL BE IN GOOD COMPANY

Nobody in the room got there by accident.

If you are worried you'll be the only one who came to this late, or from somewhere unexpected — you won't be. A typical cohort looks something like this.

Already in social services
Support workers, shelter and youth staff who want the credential their work has needed for years.
People with their own history
Some of the best counsellors got here through their own recovery, or someone else’s. It is not a disqualification.
Coming from another field
Leaving retail, trades or an office for work that means something at the end of the day.
WHERE IT LEADS

A caseload, a team, and work that asks the best of you.

Graduates work in treatment centres, community mental-health agencies, shelters, hospital programs, withdrawal management and correctional settings — as counsellors, case managers and support staff. Demand across Ontario has not softened.

Your advisor can talk you through which settings hire graduates near you, and what the first year of practice usually looks like.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Three easy things, and none of them hard.

1
An advisor calls you
Usually the same day, from a local Ontario number. Miss it and they'll email and try again — you won't be forgotten.
2
You talk it through
Tuition, funding, campus, and how it fits around the life you already have. Ask anything. Nothing is signed on a phone call.
3
You pick a start date
Whichever intake suits you. The decision stays yours, and the date can move if your circumstances do.
Until then: sit tight. There's nothing you need to prepare, send, or fill in.
Joining Oxford College was one of the greatest decisions I have made and I feel so fortunate to be one of your students. The style and method of your teaching tells me that I’m on the right track.

IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING
When will someone call?
Usually the same business day. Evenings and weekends roll over to the next working morning.
Am I committing to anything?
No. The call is information, not enrolment. Nothing is signed, nothing is owed, and you can stop at any point.
Should I have anything ready?
Nothing formal. Your availability and a rough start date are more than enough to have a useful conversation.
Would rather not wait, or something isn't right? Call us and we'll sort it the same day.
