PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Train for two rehabilitation roles in one diploma.

Oxford College’s 61-week Physio/Occupational Therapist Assistant diploma program prepares you to work under the supervision of physiotherapists and occupational therapists, helping clients improve movement, independence and participation in everyday activities.

You’ll build practical skills in anatomy and physiology, rehabilitation techniques, therapeutic exercise, client communication, documentation, assistive devices and treatment support. Training covers both physiotherapy and occupational therapy approaches so you can graduate prepared for opportunities in either area.

Before graduating, you’ll complete 400 hours of field placement over a 16-week practicum, in both OTA and PTA settings.

Build your rehabilitation foundation
Learn anatomy, physiology, healthcare fundamentals, communication, documentation and the principles behind physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
Develop hands-on PTA and OTA skills
Practise rehabilitation techniques, therapeutic exercises, handling skills, assistive devices and approaches used with musculoskeletal, neurological and complex conditions.
Put your training into practice
Complete 400 hours of field placement across both occupational therapy and physiotherapy settings.

Gain experience before you graduate
Complete separate OTA and PTA placements for a total of 400 hours of field experience before completing your diploma.

Admission requirements

Applicants must meet one of Oxford College’s academic entry routes and have senior-level Biology or complete Oxford College’s Pre-Science course.

Clinic requirements also include a clear CPIC with Vulnerable Sector Screening and current immunization.

ACADEMIC ROUTE
OSSD or equivalent
An Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent credential.
MATURE STUDENT ROUTE
Mature Student Status
Mature Student Status with the required Wonderlic assessment.
SCIENCE REQUIREMENT
Senior Biology or Pre-Science
Senior-level high school Biology or completion of Oxford College’s Pre-Science course.
