WHAT IT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE
Eighteen months, from the inside.
EARLY
The first stretch is the science — oral anatomy, microbiology, pathology and radiography theory. It is the densest part, and it is the part that makes everything you do later make sense rather than just work.
MIDDLE
Then it moves into your hands. Scaling, probing, charting and radiographs, practised on manikins and then on each other, over and over, until your instruments do what you intend.
LATER
You move into the teaching clinic with real clients booked in, and the training becomes a job. By the end you are preparing for the national board exam and Ontario registration, and you already know you can treat someone properly.
YOU'LL BE IN GOOD COMPANY
Nobody in the room got there by accident.
If you are worried you'll be the oldest, the newest, or the only one starting over — you won't be. A typical cohort looks something like this.
Straight out of high school
Nineteen, decided, and wanting a licence before their friends have picked a major.
Dental assistants moving up
People already chairside who want to scale, diagnose, and be paid accordingly.
Starting over at 35
Leaving a trade, an office, or another country, with a family at home and a reason to finish.
WHERE IT LEADS
A licence, a chair, and a schedule you can plan a life around.
Registered dental hygienists work in general and specialist practices, periodontal offices, public health units, long-term care and mobile clinics. Many build a schedule of three or four days a week and keep it for a career.
Your advisor can talk you through what hiring looks like right now near you, and what hygienists in Ontario typically earn in their first year.

Tuition, funding, campus, and how it fits around the life you already have. Ask anything. Nothing is signed on a phone call.

You pick a start date
Whichever intake suits you. The decision stays yours, and the date can move if your circumstances do.
Until then: sit tight. There's nothing you need to prepare, send, or fill in.
