Oxford College is proud to be one of the few private post-secondary institutions in Canada to offer a comprehensive and specialized Primary Care Paramedic Diploma Program. A paramedic must have the qualities needed to work in a stressful, high-pressure environment, including quick decision-making, excellent teamwork and communication skills and a cool, calm demeanour. Our 60-week program provides the hands-on training required to work for hospitals, private ambulance services, trauma centres, fire departments and more.

Throughout the program, you’ll gain a complete knowledge of how to provide emergency care in a crisis, including:

• Assessing injuries, medical illnesses and trauma and administering prompt pre-hospital emergency care
• Establishing and maintaining intravenous (IV) treatments, administering medication, assessing and treating respiratory, stress and overdose emergencies
• Transporting patients by air, land or water to hospitals and/or medical facilities
• Collaborating with dispatchers, hospital staff, emergency personnel and family members
• Maintaining ambulances and emergency care equipment and supplies
• Assisting hospital staff with triage and/or treatment, when needed
